Civic Engagement

MPACT Memphis hosts a series of events annually to educate members about the political process through partnerships with Coalition for a Better Memphis, Memphis Urban League Young Professionals, and other civic focused organizations. This program area’s objectives are aimed at informing the membership of issues facing our community and increase the number of the creative class participating in the electoral process. Program events include:

Civics 101

  • Issue forums, featuring speakers from different areas of local politics
  • Political Debates in partnership with WREG News Channel 3 and The Commercial Appeal
  • Gatherings with local elected officials
  • Open-format forums allowing participants to express their informed opinionsFor more information contact civicengagement@mpactmemphis.org.

Community Network Program
Each month this group participates in a “field trip” to a local non-profit organization. The purpose is to network with others who are interested in community work, engage and interact with nonprofit leaders, learn more about organizations that serve community needs, and learn a new “best practice” for making organizations successful.

Serving on Boards
MPACT can help you identify available non-profit board seats as well as which boards are right for you. We can also help you with any questions about board member qualifications and requirements.

MLK Day of Service
A team of MPACT members join other area groups in volunteering for a day of service to a designated local organization or efforts that serve a community need. Past projects have included volunteering at a soup kitchen and participating in a neighborhood clean-up.

Non-Profit Expo
Hailed as one of the largest efforts of its kind, an annual event where MPACT Memphis partners with Volunteer Memphis to connect local volunteers with nonprofit agencies. Past years have accommodated 108 nonprofit vendors with more than 1000 prospective volunteers/donors in attendance.
